Angiotensin I (1-9) is produced from proangiotensin by angiotensin converting enzyme 2 (ACE2). It is reported to have protective effects on cardiac and vascular remodeling. Angiotensin I (1-9) stimulates the secretion of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP). This human angiotensin peptide is analogous to horse, sheep, pig, and rat angiotensin.
